This is my second year of LOWFERing. Last year I heard
one station, but got the bug.
This year things are much better thanks to Spectran and
some better antennas. I am using an AOR 3030 with a
LEK preamp, a home-brew 4.5 foot unshielded loop with
balanced to unbalanced balun, and Spectran (which runs
more reliably on my old 133 MHz pentium than ARGO).
Living in the suburbs isn't exactly a radio quiet zone,
but it's still possible to dig out a few signals
between the noise. Here's a map showing what can be
done with a reasonably simple setup:

All of these were heard between mid December and now.
Hopefully this will be an encouragement to other
newcomers who are getting sick of listening to buzzing
nothingness. There really is something out there.....!
