[Lowfer] Serious email problems (Mine!)

Hello everyone,

It seems that my primary ISP, AT&T, is having serious email problems.
They have posted a public notice on their web page saying that we ( I )
can expect serious email delays during the next few weeks. Apparently
they are reducing the delay by dumping much of the incoming email into
the bit bucket. Even my volume of junk email is down by about 50%.

To add insult to injury, Yahoo!Groups will not let me change my delivery
email address so that I can get the emails from the various groups I am
subscribed to. (Their system apparently won't send out the
confirmation email that is required to verify an address change, meaning
that I am trapped with the inoperative AT&T address until Yahoo! gets
THAT problem fixed.)

For the past week, I have been missing large numbers of emails I have
been expecting to receive. I ran an email delivery test this evening,
and logged on to two of my web servers and sent a number of emails to
myself. I found that out of the ten emails I sent within a half hour,
six of them were returned as impossible to deliver. However, all the
messages I sent OUT from my AT&T address made it through to my mail
servers.

As a temporary (maybe permanent) work-around, I have set up a new email
address on one of my web servers with the address of
[email protected] . I have managed to arrange things so that all
email addressed to that address will be downloaded to my personal
computer, and the replies will go out through AT&T, but flagged such
that the recipient of my reply will see the return address as being from
the [email protected] address.

So, if you want to send me email, I suggest you use the new address
until AT&T gets their act together.

If you've sent me any email in the past week or so, and I have not
replied to it, please resend it to the [email protected] address.

Thanks!
