Bill,

Something's overloading if you're hearing chickens being plucked that far
away from 100 kHz. There will be Loran lines (plenty), but the racket
shouldn't be all that audible.

If you are using the R75, try keeping the noise blanker off.

I'd suggest not using Preamp 2 on the R75. Better to do the preamplification
externally with something more crunch-proof. I've done OK with Preamp 1.

If you've still got problems, then something must be non-linear in the
antenna system, as you suggested. Of course, don't forget that I'm using a
tuned loop which has some rejection of Nantucket Loran when aimed at the
U.K.

Regarding the freq calibration, despite all the pulsing and wide BW, you
will see a line right on 100 kHz when using Argo and with the receiver in CW
mode. Probably best to look with an Argo 30 or 60 second screen so there
aren't too many competing lines.
