Hi Les
I have the typical from the handbook Coax 160 meter shielded loop.
basically a 20 Ft in dia Pc of coax in a PVC frame. Tuned to a very broad
peak that centers at 1900 Khz and covers 160. Tuned with a small
Transistor radio
tuning cap. It is much quieter than the L antenna and hears better and
you can turn it to
null out interfering stations. Is it as good an a U or bev NO. But for a
small space
is a very nice receiving antenna and using a Kenwood 756 requires no
preamp as the built in
one does the job. I dont know if it would be able to cover that large a
tuning range but
I see no reason why additional loops fer different ranges couldnt be
included in the same frame
Consider the Amrad E Field probe which covers 10 Khz to 30 Mhz and works
well also. I havent done much A/B testing on 160 to compare it to the
loop but the Probe is much quieter than the L although at my mounting
arraignment I dont think it is quite as good as the loop. Like I said I
havent given it a good test. It does work well on LF
WA3USG uses the probe a good bit on the BCB and likes it
Good Luck,,winter and the Quiet is approaching
