ORCAD has taken over the MicroSim DesignLab Pspice and it's available free
at http://www.orcad.com/products/products_f.htm The CD is also free if you
want to order it on this site. Select the 'student version' download at the
bottom of the page. This version is even better than the older MicroSim
product, especially with faster computers and much more RAM than we had a
few years ago.
In case you have never used these products this is a click and drag program
where you put components in place from a fairly extensive library and you
wire them up via mouse-generated lines. After selecting the desired analysis
mode you click on Analyze and in seconds view the frequency response,
voltages, and currents, just as though you had set up the circuit on the
bench. Then you can play around with the component values to optimize the
performance. I have found the simulated results match the actual circuit
performance very closely.
