Please put those symbols on the LWCA site. I would be very interested in
downloading them.
Thanks,

Subject: Re: [Lowfer] Schematics
For what it's worth, I use both Lyle's approaches and Peter's idea,
depending on the complexity of the drawing.
I created my own collection of symbols for Paint and keep them in a
read-only file, so I can copy and paste into my diagram. This collection of
symbols was once on the Longwave BBS, and if there is any interest, it could
end up in the LWCA File Library on the Web too. I like the look of a
drawing done this way, but it becomes tedious if the drawing is overly
large. That's when a CAD program, or else scanning a physical drawing,
becomes more practical.
One suggestion I would offer: If a drawing can be saved as a good 2-color
(B&W) graphic without loss of information, it's probably best to use GIF
(not JPG) as the file format wherever possible. Line drawings often produce
larger files in JPEG encoding than they do in GIF, and the resulting JPEG
images also tend to include grainy artifacts that can obscure small details.
I have spent many a tiresome hour cleaning up artifacts in JPEG scans, pixel
by pixel, to make them acceptable for publication or inclusion in reports.
:-)

John Davis
