[Lowfer] Ferrite rod winding

I have a QUANTUM LOOP antenna for which I'm making additional rotatable =
heads (already mad a couple). The rotating heads are just ferrite rods, =
wound for different medium- and long-wave bands.

I noticed the original QUANTUM LOOP head for medium wave was made with =
quite a bit of air between the windings and the ferrite rod. The =
windings were wrapped around a piece of PVC, and the rod thru the center =
of the PVC was further isolated from it by several windings of electical =
tape around the ferrite rod. =20

Looking for advice. I'm winding new coils. Should I put the windings =
right on the ferrite rods, or put some air between the coils and the =
windings?

Thanks.
