Greetings:

IC706 on LF, sure works great here.  I have an IC706 Mk II G and have used 
it on LF for nearly two years now.  It will hold within one bucket at ARGO 
set for 180 second dits of DCF39, 138.83 kHz for days on end, I watch DCF39 
moving around in frequency due to propagation.  I might be lucky but the 
thing really is stable as far as frequency goes.

Yes, it needs a preamp at 138 kHz, No, it is not much good any lower down, 
I would not consider the rig for transmit so that is not an issue here.

The radio does run warm so adequate local circulation is required, my fan 
never comes on except during transmit operation.
