[Lowfer] Great find!

Well, a few days ago, that great and well-known swapfest in cyberspace,
yielded a very nice LF / MF receiver in the form of a Cushman CE-21A
frequency selective voltmeter. Strangely enough, no one but me bid on
it, so I got it for $19.95 plus shipping - which ran another $20.00. I
think I got a pretty good deal!

After unwrapping it and a liberal application of my Universal Equipment
Cleaner, (Windex) it looked as good as new except for the normal wear
marks and corner dings. It also works fine, and I was able to
recalibrate it in less than an hour. It seems very stable, and it quite
sensitive, with a noise floor of -119 dB. It tunes 4 KHz to 9100 KHz.
AM, LSB or USB. IF Bandwidth is either 200 Hz or 2.3 KHz. And I even
got an almost complete operator and service manual with it. Does anyone
have any operating tips for this unit?

Right now the CE-21A is feeding my dedicated SHMRG computer (100 MHz
Pentium / W95 / minimal hardware for low power consumption) which is
running ARGO. I'm watching it trace a very straight line across the
screen as it tracks my calibration oscillator on 176.870 KHz. It's a
far more stable and sensitive receiver than my Sony ICF-2010. Now to
start listening for some signals!
