Thanks for the clarification, Dennis.

My original comment shows my ignorance of the LOGic databases are 
integrated. Altho I became a customer with LOGic 4, the workings of this 
great software have always been a mystery to me. I would much rather use it 
as a tool, than get to know its inner workings. Which is part of the crux of 
the matter.

I understand what you are saying about PREFIX TABLE versus other tables, 
storage of historical dates, etc.

Each time there is a major upgrade, I experience some "growing pains" 
tweaking whatever tables are relevant to my needs (mostly chasing and 
tracking DXCC). I know you make every attempt to release accurate/current 
tables data, but inevitably, there are some differences between yours and 
mine.

My original question was voicing concern about new "growing pains" if and 
when I jump from LOGic 8 to LOGic 9. Some of these one-off call signs, 
DXpeditions, everything the French government licenses, etc., has subtleties 
and nuances in their callsign/prefix structure. I just want my logging life 
to be quick/simple. During a major upgrade, I might be willing to do one or 
two evening's manual upgrades, provided I had a clear scope of project.

In any case, I was not throwing stones, just stating an obstacle I have 
encountered every time I've done a major version upgrade.

There is one big problem with what you propose.  The prefix table has
NOTHING  AT ALL to do with awards tracking.  It merely causes DXCC, CQ
Zone, etc to get logged automatically -- most of the time.  You could
delete all of the records out of the prefix table, and LOGic would still
work.  You would have to manually select the country in all cases.

LOGic does not require that every possible call map to the proper DXCC
country.  In many cases this is ambiguous -- the only way to know is to
ask, then manually log the country (or add that complete call in the
Prefixes list of the prefix table, then log it).

There is a list of most active stations and their DXCC countries on that
web site that maintains tables for CT, N1MM etc, but it has no
historical data or date ranges when a particular entry is active like
LOGic des.  However, I am exploring ways to utilize it to our benefit.

What MAY help you is a report that lists the DXCC prefix with the QSO,
along with the DXCC description and ADIF number from the DXCC list in
Tools/Setup/List of Valid Values. (This table IS necessary for DXCC
tracking).
