[LOGic] Logic Stops Working after Backup

Hi Ron

I do exactly the same thing as regards backups....I use the "Advanced" tab 
and run one backup to the local PC and another to a different PC on the LAN. 
I name the backups according to date so I have an inventory of known-good 
databases, just in case. I am on V.103 and have been doing the backup drill 
on numerous prior versions without the problems you describe....the software 
routines for this appear sound.

You don't mention what OS you're running (I'm still with XP), but that's a 
possibility....notice that when LOGIC starts its backup routine, it drops 
out of "normal" log mode and appears to close the database. Sounds like your 
problem is when the database reloads?

Now, on occasion, I have found that LOGIC "appears" to be closed & shutdown, 
but if I run Task Manager, I find vestiges (eg map, LOGIC server, etc.) 
still running. Not all the time, but occasionally. Might be a good idea to 
force your problem to happen, then go to Task Manager and force any stubborn 
pieces to shut down, and THEN to the Clean and restart. Maybe even do that 
in Safe Mode?

I'd eliminate these possibilities, and also do some head scratching in the 
event you're running Vista or Win7.

Has anyone seen this?

I use Logic8's backup feature to backup my log to another computer on my
home network.  I use the advanced feature to select the computer and file
name.

Approximately 5 minutes after I finish the backup, Logic8 stops working.  I
get a windows box that says: "logic8.exe has stopped working.   A problem
caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the
program and notify you if a solution is available."   I then click on "Close
program."

Now it appears as though Logic8 is shut down, but Logic Map is still
running.  I manually close Logic Map.

If I try to restart Logic8, I get a blank screen and a message that says
Logic8 is already running.  I close this window.

Now when I try to restart LOGic I get the window asking if I should perform
a CLEAN.  I click YES.

Now when I restart LOGic, it rebuilds the indexes.  And restarts.
Everything is back to normal.

This seems to be a lot of work just to back up my log.

I don't know for sure, but this might have started failing after I upgraded
to version 8.0.103.  It has always worked in the past.



Another problem I have found, when I click on the Filter icon, I sometimes
get the message "Variable 'BAND' is not found.  I click Ignore, and I
sometimes get one or more  variable not found messages.
