[LOGic] Progress form and grid square errors

Hi Rick,
So it's acting as if there is really a QSO in your log that is
showing "en58". Yet there shouldn't be anything in that field of
the log database file in lowercase, regardless of how it was
entered. This is strange.
I guess if it was my problem, the first thing I would do is...
MAKE A BACKUP OF THE LOG FILE!
Then, just on general principles, do a CLEAN. This is a separate
launch icon accessible from Run =-> Programs => Logic8 (or
whatever version you're using). Probably different wording in
Vista. After CLEAN and relaunch, check it out and see if that
fixed it. Probably not.
Next, I would use the Database commands feature to actually search
the log for a lower-case "en58". From the main menu, select
Advanced => Database Commands => Edit => Find, and mark the "case"
checkbox. It may just pinpoint the offending QSO. If nothing comes
up, I'd progress to this next step:
I would temporarily change the grid field in all EN58 QSOs in your
log to something valid but distinct, like a grid on the other side
of the world you have never worked. Make a note of that grid
square. Use the global "replace" feature (Advanced => Database
Commands => Edit => Replace), but make sure the "case" checkbox is
cleared. Check to make sure you got them all by doing a Filter on
Grid = EN58. There should be nothing found.
Now go into Lists of Valid Values and once again delete both the
"en58" entry AND the "EN58" entry. Then do an Awards Update. If
either "en58" or "EN58" comes back into the list, then there is
something seriously screwed up in your log file.
At that point, I would export the whole log.dbf file to Excel
format (assuming you have MS Excel), sort on the Grid column, and
really comb through it for that "en58". Excel will not recognize
differences in case during a sort, but they should be visible,
whereas they will NOT be visible in the LOGic log display itself.
You can also do a Find in Excel and search for "en58" specifying
the "match case" option.
If you don't have Excel, there are probably some freeware
spreadsheet apps that would work. Or get a freeware dBase
reader/editor and try hunting for it using that...
Good luck. Don't forget to back up first before doing ANY of this
stuff.
