joe, doug..

thanks for the input.  i do run some remote desktop sessions over the 
vpn and they work fine.  this is certainly an option.  the problem is 
that logic won't read the rig frequency/mode this way.  moving the data 
back in forth gives me that, but at the cost of some hassle.

might not be a perfect solution to this.
