Should I reinstall Logic 8 in a different directory ? Or, is there an easy
way to back-grade ?

Jamie, I can't think of what could be wrong... but the first thing I
would do is go back to an earlier version of Logic and confirm the
problem corresponds to the update. If it does, you will have to contact
Dennis and find out if he has done any work with the serial interface.
