[LOGic] Microham, Logic and the rest of this thread

Hello All:

Lots of bloviating - let's stick to what we know. We have a situation where
we have a Windows-based program with standard implementation of serial
communication to attached devices. This has been going on for 15 years +/-.
I've been a loyal Logic customer since that time and I plan on no moves. Now
fast-forward to present day - we now have USB, virtual serial ports,
Hyperthreading with one physical processor, different versions of multi-core
processors with different RAM controllers, and on and on. Different
motherboards also talk to the CPU's differently with different chipset
drivers. The multi-core processors that currently exist are the AMD Athlon
x2, Opteron (which I recently upgraded to), and Intel's multi-core
processors - Core 2 Duo, Quads, Extremes, yada, yada.

To those of you who have had weird comm. problems with Logic with your
radio, and particularly with virtual, USB-derived COM ports, as with several
devices (not just microHam's), and you have a multi-core processor
(Hyperthreading does not appear to be a problem), try this in WinXP:

- Right-click on My Computer | System Properties
- Click Advanced tab
- Click Settings button for Startup and Recovery
- Click Edit button
-Under [Operating System], add to the end of line /numproc=1 (usually after
/fastdetect or /NoExecute=OptIn)

Reboot the computer and verify that you have one CPU functioning by hitting
Ctrl-Alt-Del and choosing Task Manager | Performance. You should see one
graph for the CPU.

This was ABSOLUTELY the answer to MY problem with MY specific hardware.
YMMV. I suspect there is some old code lurking in Logic that makes it not
quite ready for multiple processors. This is my OPINION not a statement of
fact.

Sorry you got flamed, Marty ! I haven't been hit by the doctor stuff yet
<bracing for attack>. Of course, lawyers and docs always see eye to eye,
right !? ;) HI
