[LOGic] Logic 8 and Microham Interfaces

Hi Keith:

I guess I should chime in a little on this issue as I had a recent "It's the
software - No, it's the hardware" conundrum. I, too, have a MH MicroKeyer
and it works flawlessly with all software - including Logic 8. That is until
I upgraded my computer to include a multi-core processor. I didn't get the
connection until the conversation between the techies at MicroHam and Logic
(which I was made privy to) came my way. My problem was the irregular serial
time outs and loss of rig control. It turns out that when I forced my
computer to a single core boot-up, the problem was completely resolved. So
presently, I am running in single core mode for now.

So you see, it is the hardware ... and the software ! HI

Stan,

Don't feel bad! You are not alone. I have gotten answers from Dennis and
he squarely lays the blame on MicroHam. There are other issues that are
there that have nothing to do with MH like the Telnet functionality not
restarting when you close Logic with the telnet windows open and connected.
That used to work and a few have asked about it but Dennis is ignoring that
issue as well. I am frustrated with communications failures with my rig
and Split requests not working when called for. Up 2 or QSX 3 or listening
14236 should all effectively cause a split setting to occur in Logic8. It
does on every other product I have tried. I am sure it will not take long
for Paul to chime in and give us his response to Dennis' laying blame for
the Pro III MicroHam issues when the MH devices work effectively and
effortlessly with other Loggers that are Payware or freeware.

I hope we do not have to wait to pay for ver9 to get these issues fixed.

Keith

Subject: [LOGic] Logic 8 and Microham Interfaces

   Hello All
I am new to the list. I first bought Logic in 1991 when it was just
starting out as a program. I have had several versions since then.
I left Logic in 2001 to use the Logger in Mixw and later the logger
in HRD/DM780. A year ago I got hooked on DX and contesting and
saw the need for a better Logger. A week ago I bought Logic 8. I have
several questions I haven't been able to figure out yet, even
   though,YES,
   I have read the manual.
My biggest problem right now is my Microham USB II Interface goes into
transmit everytime I start Logic 8. The only way to get it out of
   transmit
is to disconnect the USB cable to the interface and then plug it back
in. Also when I go to setup rig in the Logic menu it goes into
   transmit. Since I
have had this interface for a couple of years and have used it with
literally every ham software out there and have never experienced this
   problem before,
I have to think the fix is within Logic 8. I emailed Dennis about the
problem a week ago but have received no answer. Does he answer emails?
   I have seen
many reviews about the wonderful support for Logic and now need that
support. Here is the email I sent to Dennis and PDA tech help.

When I go to the Setup-Misc Ham Setup page, my Pro III goes into
transmit. Also I have noticed when I do certain other things it goes
into transmit also.
The only way to get it out of transmit is to disconnect the USB port on
the interface and re-plug it in.

I found a screen I can watch from the Device Router page of Microham.
When the problem occurs the Com 5 DTR and RTS never get keyed, however
the CTS line DOES get keyed and the Pro III goes into Transmit. The CTS
line is used for SQL which I don't use, I have the SQL selected as none
(no com port selected) on the router page.

Note that the PTT does work in Logic 8 and so does the cw keying. I use
com 5 DTR for cw and com 5 RTS for PTT. The rig control works fine on Com 1

It appears to me that Logic 8 is energizing the CTS line and the
interface then tells the radio to transmit. CTS stays on until I
disconnect and re-plug in the USB port

In the last 2 weeks I have tried and demoed just about every logger out
there. Also tried TRX manager and Commcat. All worked ok with the
Microham interface. . My interface is the latest model and I have owned it
for a couple years.

Since I have used just about all the software out there for hamradio
digital and rig control and have never had this problem before, I assume
that Logic 8 is doing something different from the other programs. I
searched the Microham yahoo group for similar problems ( I am a
member) but didn't find any answers.

Obviously this was not a deal killer since I bought Logic 8 anyway. It
is however irritating and you can bet if I am having trouble with it,
others will too.
Since my other ham software all works FB, I hesitate to approach
Microham with the problem. I am using the latest 5.1.1 (Ok for Vista)
usb device router from Microham. My OS is Windows Vista.

Any thoughts?

Thanks and 73
