[LOGic] More on remote operation

Hi Jeff...
Ref your power on/off issue, I suppose it depends on the rig. I am in the
process of remoting a Kenwood TS2000. Its software (ARCP2000) has a power
on/off function which can be remoted...nice!
In the absence of a rig/software that can support this, I would probably use
some kind of X10 appliance device on the power line...which has interfaces
for DTMF over telco, internet server, etc. For years I have used X10 for
lighting & security control, and it works well. There are plenty of
peripheral devices you can add for interface, status & control, noise
filtering, extending range, etc. Visit www.smarthome.com, www.x10.com, or
GOOGLE "x10", you'll find tons of stuff.
With my remote base project, I am copying another ham's approach, which uses
Kenwood's ARCP2000 software. Unlike TRX, the software is pretty much a
virtual screen of the physical radio. All the functions are up front and
visible, not buried in menus which may be overlooked or forgotten. As it is,
the TS2000 has so many bells & whistles, it has a rather steep learning
curve regardless how it's operated.
The remote layer will be Ultra-VNC, and VOIP via Skype or whatever.
If I add virtual COM ports, I want to have LOGic in there for logging the
remote radio. LOGic does not need to control the radio, altho it needs to be
aware of freq/mode. Not sure what conflict the two software apps will have
on the one radio. Maybe none. Maybe I won't know without trying...unless
someone one the group has been there & done that?
I've asked the group, so far most replies come back to use TRX...great
program, I have it, but prefer ARCP2000 for my application.
