   This one my very few nits to pick with LOGic, namely, that it is 
difficult to run multiple rigs simultaneously. For awhile, I used a 
different logging program that made going back between transceivers simple: 
one click on the memory bar at the top of the screen. It would be nice if 
Dennis could do this for us in LOGic.. Having to go to Log-->Setup-->Rig, 
Rotor and Terminal to change rigs is simply kludgy and inconvenient when 
using two radios. I have two Mark-Vs and an FT-857D, each ported through a 
serial-to-USB converter into a multiport hub that also hosts my Rigblaster, 
SteppIR and Rotor controller lines. This allows me to use one single USB 
port on the computer, itself, and it works quite well. The radio switching 
thing, however, remains very frustrating.

No I don't think so... At least not in the near future. The standard is
still current and used in the industrial world where it's noise immunity is
important. So there will always be <something> to RS232 adapters available.

Interesting perspective on timne, obsolesence, and ham radio (only
boatanchors will have RS232?!?). The challenge will be deriving RS232 when
all other manufacturers have long since forgotten it!

Some newer transceivers are using Ethernet. The trouble is transceivers are
used for decades. The RS232 interface has been around for a very long time
and is still used for other applications. It has had a long life... Unusual
in the PC world. Will USB 2.0 ports still be available in 20 years? In the
90's we were still using BNC connectors for Ethernet! I wouldn't count on
any current connection still being available in 10 years... But I'll bet
that RS232 is still being used for low-speed serial data where very high
noise immunity is required.

Thanks for yur comments. I just sent some more questions to Jack K4WSB, CC'd
to the reflector, so will not duplicate here. But they all relate to
possible changes in operating habits using LOGIC, concessions, etc., when
the complexity of two rigs is added.

It's hard to find more than one serial port on a PC anymore...sometimes no
COM port at all! Soon they will be gone entirely. I only use a laptop with
LOGIC when running Field Day or other contest scenario, but the laptops are
notorious for no longer having COM ports. Yours & Jack's suggestion to use a
USB-derived serial interface sounds like the best future-looking solution,
even though it's a bit pricey. It's surprising that transceiver mfgrs are
still using a serial bus, when USB, Bluetooth, firewire, and even WIFI are
available to them. Yes, it costs them money to develop something new,
but......

I appreciate your (and others') insights into solving my new problem. I
still have to think through antenna, amplifier, and soundcard switching. New
rig = highclass problems!
