Geez... Who does... I'm a professional, more or less, and I'm often confused
by Windows, just less so than the average Joe... (An "expert" is someone who
knows slightly more than the person he's trying to help ;-) Worked with Unix
and minicomputers for years where I knew where I stood... But Windows is
confusing. It's made to be "easy" to set up. As a result, you can install XP
with just about zero knowledge, but when you have an issue and want to
"understand" what's going on, is almost impossible because the user
interface hides too much of the underlying workings of the OS. As a result,
the only people who actually understand this stuff are specialists... And I
don't mean those who have a few MS certifications under their belts... I
mean those who really spend a LOT of time learning the ins and outs of the
Windows OSes. Your point is well taken in a secure environment, but on the
typical home computer, the best way to learn about an OS is to play around
some. There is a lot of help on some websites dedicated to XP. I really need
to do a bit more messin' with the home computer... The importance of good
backups, however, cannot be overstated!
