[Logic] How to best use QRZ lookup and Log

Hi guys,

I operate a lot of 6M SSB, chasing grid squares and states, so I enabled
auto-logging from QRZ. When I hear a station, I type the call into the CALL
field and hit TAB to generate a QRZ query. I get back the info, which fills in
the fields in a new database record. Then one of two things happens:

1) I find I already have the grid or state and decide to move on.
2) He's a new grid or state, and I decide to try to work the guy.

In the case of 1), I erase the record and open a new blank record for the next
try. Ungainly, but not too bad.

In the case of 2), let's say there's a pile-up on him, and working him takes
some time. After about twenty minutes of trying, I get through and score the
QSO. But the time stamp in my log is twenty minutes ago. If I remember in the
heat of the action, I go into the log and correct the time field, but sometimes
I forget. Bad news for QSLing!

I thought from reading the Help that I could actually look up a guy in the
"Callbook from Web" window without generating a log record -- and then if I want
to log him, I just click Copy and a new log entry will be generated with the
current date/time, etc. But it doesn't seem to work that way. If this is indeed
the way it is supposed to work, I must be doing something wrong. When I click
Copy, I do get a new record started, but the only fields that get filled in are
the fields that carry over from previous QSOs, plus the date/time stamp. (At
least that works!) None of the information in the Callbook from Web window -- no
call, no name, no QTH, etc., etc. What am I doing wrong?
