[Logic] QSO/Record number or serial number

True.  I see your point.

Well, speaking only for myself, I think a column called QSO NUM or REC
NUM or REC NO. etc. would look nice.  And if you deleted a record, it
could "on-the-fly" re-number that qso and every subsequent qso.  But
this might be adding too much overhead to LOGic and require indexing
another column.

My second choice vote is what Tony, WB2JRI is proposing - which I
think is placing an always visible Filter count somewhere either in
the INFO window or along the bottom edge of the screen.
