[Logic] Filtering userfields

Good evening,
    I know that this is probably one of those simple things that I'm
missing, but...

I track FISTS numbers by using user8.  I am trying to use the filter to
select all FISTS numbers that are not blank.  I have beaten my head on the
desk enough that it came to me to ask here.  I have looked at the help menu,
which instructs using the $ command.  I can get it to filter to one specific
FISTS number, but not all.  I have tried inclusive, greater than 0, between
1 and 10000, and any other  combination that I could think of.  The string
that worked for a specific number was:

$(contains cmd)        FISTS:####              (# of course being the FISTS
number)

Any suggestions???
