Hi Guys,

A lot of you asked for the screenshot - I'm posting this to the
reflector to cover those that requested (through the reflector) that I
send it along. And then I'll send a copy to cover those that
requested the info privately in a direct email to me.

Okay, I think the easiest way to do this is to look at two GIF files:

http://shell2.lomag.net/~agtan/log.gif

and

http://shell2.lomag.net/~agtan/log.gif

The first GIF, is a example of some forms that I often have open when
I'm operating. Note first that for what I'm about to explain the INFO
window does NOT have to be open - all you need is your favorite
LOGFORM, BROWSE, and either/both PROGRESS1, PROGRESS2.

Okay, look closely at the BROWSE form. There's a little asterik to
the left of most of the column headings - all this means is that I
have indexed them (more on this in a bit...). Practically speaking
(and quite frankly this is the single best feature that I love about
LOGic) all I have to do is double-click on any of the column headers
and then my log is automatically sorted by that header.

An example: suppose I work an Estonian station (ES). Quickly, I want
to find out all the other ES stations that I've worked. Instead of
doing a FILTER on DXCC=ES, I just log the call (or do a GET
i.e. Ctrl-G; and type in ES) and then double-click the DXCC column
header in the BROWSE form. Boom! The log is sorted by DXCC countries
and I have a quick listing of all the ES stations I've worked. I can
glance at the QSL Sent and Received status, what bands I've worked
them on, etc. etc. Moreover, I have PROGRESS1 and PROGRESS2 open.
I've sent PROGRESS1 to track DXCC and PROGRESS2 to track CQZ (you can
set them up for whatever you want - just hit the SELECT button and
pick your award). The PROGRESS1 and PROGRESS2 info also gives me a
quick summary of Worked vs. Confirmed.

Now for those of you that already do this with LOGic, this is old
news. I learned this from Frank, W2FCA. Indexing is the best feature
ever! Thanks Frank!

How to do it: (For this example I'm going to show you how to index the
DXCC column, but you can also index the Band column, the MODE column,
etc. etc. - I've even indexed my own USER-DEFINED QSL METHOD column.
See the second GIF, it should be explanatory on how I did this.)

Go to Tools|Advaned|Index Setup Info.

Add a new entry(Ctrl-N). In the FILE type LOG. In the INDEX TAG type
DXCC. The INDEX TYPE should be NORMAL. In the INDEX EXPRESSION type
LOG.DXCC

[Repeat if you also want to index the MODE column - just type in
"LOG", "MODE", "LOG.MODE" and so on and so forth for the BAND column
or CQZ column, etc.]

After you're done, LOGic will prompt you do do a REINDEX, PACK, and
SORT. You must do this for the changes to take effect.

Open up your favorite LOGFORM and you're in business!

I hope this has given some of you a new idea on how to exploit a fun
and useful feature of LOGic. If I can help any of you further, please
let me know.
