[Logic] DXCC Submissions

Bill,

I waited until I had about 275 (542 Qs) confirmed until I submitted for the
first time, and in retrospect, I would recommend against that strategy for
the new DXer.

First of all, my local card counter put me immediately on his black list of
guys to never trust again, even though I had my entire submission
perfectly organized in an excel spreadsheet. Secondly, if money matters
(money in this hobby??), you don't capitalize on the free 120 QSOs with
each annual submission to the League.

Last, and maybe most significantly, some of this stuff may not count, like
my 7O1YGF Qs, and unless you keep up with this stuff through some DX
newsletters, you may fail to pick up someone you think you have already. A
note on this one, I submitted a couple of 3X Qs which were negated on the
first round of counting. Then the paperwork was submitted by those guys
and Bill Moore allowed them as valid. A quick email to him ( a super guy
BTW ) had my sheet amended to reflect the new credits.

If you like to retain possession of your cards through the whole process,
and I do, get to know your local card counter and find out how he/she likes
to do business. My local guy was pretty easy to deal with, but he recently
resigned, so I have to figure out what his successor wants, and I just hope
it is not a hand filled out DXCC record sheet.

Logic, BTW, doesn't do a very good job of crafting a DXCC record sheet,
since it can have no knowledge of multiple QSOs on a single card, which
should be placed at the end of the sheet. That is what drove me to an
excel spreadsheet. With the right macros, you can automate that part of
the process. I modified a report generator to spit out a comma delimited
file that imports into excel seamlessly. If you are interested, I'll email
it to you, you can play with it.

Well, have fun with this, but seriously, submit early because the backlog
around September is awesome.

73,

Hank
