Hello LOGic Users,
A few ideas, etc....
LABELS vs. CARDS -
You can use your custom QSL card and print directly to it, skipping the
agony, time applying/printing, and cost of printing labels.
One of the beautiful things about LOGic is its ability to create a report
(aka a "form") pretty much to your own liking. You can select what fields
to include and how they will be automatically filled out. You also
determine where the fields need to be with respect to your card's existing
layout.
Your report can "look" like the reverse of your QSL (should you be printing
on the back). Here you will create all the fields in which you will make
your entries. You can fill in text lines, QSO info, enter "X" inside boxes,
etc.
Easiest way to begin is to start with an existing report and modify it to
suit.
Your printer needs to be able to handle your card stock size; check your
manual. You can test by cutting paper down to match QSL card size then see
if printer handles OK.
A friend prints his pre-printed QSL card and runs them through his HP
printer just fine. His card is VERY constraining - meaning his fields are
close together, he has various check boxes scattered about, etc. No problem
for LOGic or his printer.
CARD LAYOUT EXAMPLES -
I print the entire QSL card - front and rear. If you'd like a glimpse,
check out: www.K1UQ.com enter K1UQ and go to "K1UQ QSLs". Here you can
see the possibilities. You can setup your report to do just about
anything - from one QSL card per QSO, or one QSL card handling many QSOs as
in a DXpedition, contest, or other event where you work the same station
multiple times. This site, started a year ago, has been somewhat dormant as
other projects have been in the way.
My latest adventure created a report that prints QSL cards ONLY - no labels,
no return address stickers, no printing addresses on envelopes... the QSL
cards are inserted into WINDOW envelopes - what could be simpler?
A WORD ABOUT CARD STOCK -
There are a number of manufacturers of pre-perforated card stock. Most are
four cards per 8.5 in. by 11.0 in. sheets, with each card 4.25 in. by 5.5
in. I rather like this enlarged size as it allows more room for printing.
Drawback is you need # 5-1/2 Baronial (aka Invitation) size envelopes
which cost a bit more. I haven't found a suitable window envelope in this
size.
Another pre-perforated size stock yields three cards from an 8.5 in. by 11.0
in. sheet. Each card is 8.5 inches wide - yes, full width. These cards fit
nicely in #10 Window envelopes, and allow inclusion of a preprinted #9 SASE.
Using #9 allows you to print and insert flat - no folding which saves even
more time. This size has saved me the most time - I print just the card...
all the QSO info I desire, the address I am mailing to, and my return
address. I take the card, a #9 SASE, and insert in a window envelope and
apply self-stick postage.
I hope you may find the above either informative or useful. I also hope it
stimulates you to explore the vast possibilities LOGic provides.
Regards,
Bill Lawless K1UQ
