That sounds like a plan. I had some sort of problem in the past and a
re-install fixed it.

Richard-
Thanks much. So now I know it is not XP. I thought I might have had a
full or faulty backup drive. I usually back up to a zip but also to a
second hard drive in the computer. The problem extends to all these
drives. Maybe I will reinstall LOGIC just to see if something has
gotten munged. I can't think of any other idea to try.

Hi Bob:
I just performed a backup with no problems.
What drive are you trying to backup to? CD R/W, Zip, Floppy?

I am also using XP. Can one of you XPers verify that the backup tool
still works under XP? I am getting messages that the backup compression
failed, and I am not sure if this is a problem related or unrelated to
my recent change of operating systems.

Lars:
It must be another problem. I have Logic 5.3.128 running on XP with no
problems.
When I installed Logic on my new XP machine I used my original 5.0 cd
and
its key. Then I installed the 5.2 cd using its key code. I then
downloaded
the 5.3 update from the web site and installed that.
After all that was done, I restored my log data from my last backup copy
from my older machine. Worked pretty well.
If you go to XP be aware that you lose the ability to use your LPT port
for
cw keying. The only thing the LPT port can be used for is printing.
There
is a device driver that can be down loaded off of the internet that will
drive the lpt port when using XP. The fellas that use Writelog had a
discussion about it on the Writelog reflector.
