Spotter activation is likely overnight due to the expectation of a fast moving
squall line associated with a historic low pressure system that is slated to
gyrate across the Superior Uplands through tomorrow. There is the potential
that some short-lived tornadoes could be embedded in this line as well.
IEMA today urged people to be prepared for dangerous situations that could
result from high winds predicted for late tonight and Tuesday by the National
Weather Service. The high winds are expected to affect much of the state, with
wind gusts up to 60 to 80 miles per hour possible with the strongest storms.
Power outages, faling tree limbs and flying debris could cause serious
hazards. For more safety tips about high winds and severe storms, visit the
Ready Illinois website at www.Ready.Illinois.gov.
