Dear Amateur Radio Club family:

You should be aware of the seriousness of this situation and ramifications of
our current tower site. WIUM is pursuing emergency funding to replace their
failing tower from the federal goevernment.

We only have 15 dues paying members, thus can not sustain if a lease is imposed,
let alone staggering fees pertaining to moving our antennae. We were never
expected to pay for providing public service in the past, nor should we in the
future. Start thinking about what you would do without a club or repeater site
in this immediate area. Be ever cognisant of what the history of this club is
and the crucial services provided by people like Chuck Gill, Joe Rossmiller,
Gary Adams, Bud Keithly, Rolla Hightower, Jay Hainline, Rich Sample, Walter
family, just to name a few. Not only would we let them down, should this club
meet its demise, we would be letting this entire region and future area amateurs
down!

Currently, Dan Kreps is drafting a letter of support. However, we need fire
departments and other emergency entities to compose letters of support on our
behalf. The letters need to be sent to:

Dorie Vallillo
Project Director General Manager
Tri States Public Radio
500 University Services Building
1 University Circle | Macomb, IL 61455-1390

AND to:

Jerry Walter
Club Sectretary
Lamoine Amateur Radio Club
1224 Maple Avenue Macomb, IL 61455

Please read the correspondence below my signature to better understand the
situation involving the current tower site.

Sincerely,
Sharon N9RMF

Sharon:

I had a chance to discuss the situation of the new tower with Dorie and LEARC's
inclusion to the tower.

Her biggest concern is having documentation on everything on the new tower so
there is no running around and guessing what is what if any of us are no longer
here.  She was very much in favor of receiving letters of support for LEARC to
be on the tower and to demonstrate LEARC's importance and impact on the
community.  She would like to possibly use some of these letters in the
justification for emergency funding for the tower but we need those NOW as we
are putting together the request for emergency funding NOW.

The club should be aware that any transfer of antennas that the feedline is not
going to reach to the current levels on the new tower unless an extension is
added to make it work as the new tower may be as much as 100 feet away from our
current tower.  I see this distance much less but at this point that should be
the maximum.  It is still too early to discuss costs involved with labor to move
but we will try and lump it in with all of the other item to be moved that are
to the stations but it may still end up in LEARC's  lap to cover those costs and
the club should be fully aware and prepared to do so when the time comes.

And last but not least as part of the paperwork in moving the antennas to the
new tower, LEARC will be coming under a lease.  Dorie has submitted to me the
lease we had with the National Weather Service and I am using that model to come
up with something that would be suitable to both the University and to LEARC and
will be working on the wording over the next couple of weeks.
