Statewide Tornado Drills Tuesday March 6

March 4 through 10 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week for the state of Illinois.

Tuesday March 6 at 1000 AM CST a test tornado warning will be issued for all Illinois counties. Many locations in Illinois will also test sirens on Tuesday morning.

The test warnings will be disseminated through NOAA Weather Radio – All Hazards with the tone alarm and SAME codes. Many commercial radio and TV stations will participate by passing along the test tornado warning.
This would be a good time to review your severe weather procedures or conduct a tornado drill at your school or place of business.

The purpose of the test tornado warnings is to simulate an actual warning so that broadcasters, emergency managers and the public can test communications and be better prepared for an actual warning. The test warnings will be postponed if severe weather is occurring or forecast to occur over Illinois or Indiana on the day of the test.
