...Storm survey for Louisa and Muscatine counties...
A Post storm damage assessment survey team dispatched from the Quad
Cities National Weather Service office is surveying the damage caused
by severe weather on the afternoon of June 1st.
The following report is preliminary and will be updated as additional
information is obtained.
Tornado confirmed
location...Muscatine
estimated time...1225 PM
ef-scale rating...EF2
estimated wind speed...125 to 130 mph
Location...Grandview
estimate time...1215 PM
ef-scale rating...EF3
estimated wind speed...136 to 140 mph
Preliminary survey information indicates the damage in Grandview
and Muscatine was caused by the same tornado. This will be confirmed
at a later time.
Damage specifics...south side of Muscatine...large power poles
snapped. Trees snapped and uprooted. Cinder block factory had walls
collapse and roof torn off. One rail Road car was turned over. Many
buildings received structural damage.
Damage specifics...north side of Muscatine...dot garage had 3 sheds
destroyed with roof torn off another shed. Other buildings received
minor structural damage. A day care center lost siding and shingles.
Damage specifics in Grandview...widespread tree damage. Ten to 20
homes received minor structural damage and 5 to 10 homes receive
major structural damage. A house was completely flattened and trees
were shredded on a farm approximately 2 miles north of Grandview.
