Meeting Summary - July 10, 2007 (I'm sending this in two parts so the reflector doesn't treat it as spam)

This is lengthy, but worth the

read. There is some important information of interest to local hams

that I would recommend you read if you missed the meeting.

1. Rolla'sson Mike from San Diego, CA attended the meeting and gave us a brief

overview of Rolla's estate, as far as ham radio equipment is

concerned. Brandon,
KC9ILN was appointed as the club's liaison on this

matter and it was decided that we will announce (via reflector and

repeater) soon when we as a club would like to get together to

inventory the external equipment (tower and antennas), dismantle them

and store them for club use. The family has graciously allowed the

club to have the tower, coax, antenna, etc. for our own benefit or sale

as we see fit. Mike will return to Macomb in August to inventory the

remainder of his internal station. If there are any radios, coax,
etc.

that will be donated to the club then that will be done per Rolla's

family sometime next month. Kevin reported that a memorial fund

contribution in the amount of $20 was made to the family on behalf of

LEARC.

2. There was considerable discussion about severe

weather net control procedures on the .06 machine. It was decided
that

whomever is operating the radar room at WIU (generally Tony, KB9NAB)

will serve as the net control for severe weather nets. If Tony is
not

available someone can fill in, but it was agreed that 2-3 other net

control operators are not necessary and generally a nuisance.

Tony also requested that non-pertinent traffic be kept off of weather nets

(i.e. "It's raining moderately in Bushell..puddles on the road..bye

now" or "I have winds in excess of 20 mph bending my tulips" or
"dark

clouds over Lake Argyle..looks kind of mean &
nasty") and that only

severe weather reports be relayed during these "priority" traffic

situations. If you're not sure what to relay, it is suggested that
you

review the basic spotter reporting guidelines that are contained in the

spotter's manual. As of this morning, as employee of the NWS would

like to attend a meeting in the near future (probably August) to

address some growing concerns on this matter from our county.

3. There was little interest in changing the meeting night, so that
stands to stay the same for the time being.
End of Part I
