[LeArc] Light earthquake occurred over northern Illinois

338 am CDT Mon Jun 28 2004

...Light earthquake occurred over northern Illinois early this
morning...

The United States geological survey /USGS/ reported that a light
earthquake occurred at 110 am CDT 10 miles northwest of Ottawa
Illinois or about 75 miles west southwest of Chicago.  The USGS
gave the quake a preliminary rating of 4.5.  No reports of damage
have been received so far.

Based on phone calls to the National Weather Service office in the
Quad Cities...the earthquake was felt throughout the Quad Cities
region.  Reports were also received from Cedar...Jones and Dubuque
counties in Iowa and Stephenson...Mercer...Bureau and Putnam counties
in Illinois.
