Special Weather Statement
728 PM CST Mon Dec 13 2004

...The best meteor shower of 2004 peaks tonight...

The geminid meteor shower will peak tonight. Viewing conditions will
be excellent...albeit very cold...with clear skies. The moon
will be nearing the new phase so country skies will be very dark and
perfect for viewing. The peak will occur generally from 10 PM to 2 am
where dozens to hundreds of the meteors...or shooting stars per hour
are likely. The geminids will streak all over the sky...so you can
look anywhere...although they may be more prominent in the
southern sky. If you will be venturing outdoors to take a look...be
sure to dress warm...preferably in several layers. Air temperatures
will be dropping into the teens...while northwest winds at 10 to 15
mph and gusty will produce bitterly cold wind chills in the single
digits above and below zero.
