The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm
Watch for portions of
Southeast Iowa western Illinois eastern Missouri
Effective this Sunday afternoon and evening from 525 PM until 1100 PM
CDT.
Hail to 2 inches in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph...
and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is along and 85 statute miles east
and west of a line from 15 miles northwest of Burlington Iowa to 50
miles southwest of Carbondale Illinois.
Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

Discussion... elevated strong/severe storms will likely to continue
developing and spreading newd from MO to IL. Elevated cape of 1500
j/kg /based near 850 mb/ and strong low-level waa will support a
broad area of thunderstorm development... and the strongest storms
may produce large hail through the evening hours.
Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector
24040.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 11 PM CDT for the
following counties... in southeast Iowa... Des Moines... Henry...
Jefferson... lee and Van Buren. In northeast Missouri this watch
includes... Clark and Scotland counties... and in west central
Illinois it includes... Henderson... Warren... Hancock and McDonough
counties.
Thunderstorms this evening will have the potential to produce hail up
to the size of nickels and very heavy rain. Rainfall amounts of up to
1 inch in under an hour will be possible... creating localized
flooding of low lying or poorly drained areas. Locations that see
repeated thunderstorms will experience higher rainfall amounts and
the potential for flooding of creeks and streams.
