[LeArc] Generator Question

   Any of you know anything about the new portable 120 volt generators
that are the "inverter" types?

    Seems that there are several manufacturers, Honda, Yahama and
several others.

I`ve been told, but cannot confirm by asking a dealer (dealer does not
know) how these things actually work.

   Basically, it is an inverter of up to 3KW in size that is connected
to a 12 volt battery.  The inverter simply changes the 12 volts DC to
120 volts AC.

    The gasoline engine simply drives a 12 volt generator that charges
the battery.

   Sounds simple.

   My question is, since these things can produce up to 3KW at 120 volts
AC, could you attach cables directly to the generator`s 12 volt battery
and obtain 12 volts at over 200 amps?

All I can find on these things is what is available in terms of what the
manufacturers want you to know.   Like any good ham, my curiosity is not
satisfied by only just that information.

   Anyone here actually own one of these things?
