Welcome to March.  With the beginning of the public service season and =
storm
season it is time for all of us to check out the HT's and make sure that =
it is
working and ready to go.  There are a lot of storm training classes =
being held
this month, be sure that you attend one of these classes so that you =
will be
ready.

Ron Morgan, KB9NW, IL ASM has been busy this month.  He attended the
Tri-County ( Peoria, Tazwell, Woodford) ARES meeting this month.  The =
event
coordinators did a great job in getting the word out to the area =
amateurs and
there were 65 amateurs in attendance.  Pat Stowell, N9PN, DEC was also =
in
attendance.  There will be another meeting on March 27th.  The group =
leaders
are wanting to develop a trained pool of communicators that would be =
available
to assist local public service agencies.  Ron also attended the TCARS =
(Tazwell
County Amateur Radio Society) meeting.  A county wide net was conducted =
15
minutes prior to the meeting on the club 146.91 repeater.  TCARS is in =
the
process of installing a new UHF repeater on 444.550 Mhz which needs a =
few
minor adjustments before it will be ready for general use.

Members of R.A.D.I.O. formed an Emergency Planning Committee so that =
they can
gain ARES certification.  Members are AI9H, Wabash County EC, KB9KKF, =
KB9VPS,
and WB9UDJ.  They plan to pusue ARRL afiliation for the organization.

Bruce Talley, WA9APQ reports that there will be a Skywarn training on =
March 28
at the Carterville Fire Dept.  The Carterville Fire Department now has a =
new
comm-trailer which includes an Icom-706 and B & W folded dipole.  Also =
the
fire station has HF & VHF capability.

Traffic for February 2003, WA9SLT 27,WB9TVD 33, W9HLX 71, NC9T 37, W9FIF =
10,
WD9F 20, PSHR 80, WA9RUM reports that the W9VEY Memorial net traffic for
February is 6 pieces of traffic and 166 check-ins.  ISN totals for =
February,
QNI-251, QTC-117, sessions 28  D9RN net report, sessions 54, total =
check-ins
496, average per session 9.19.  Total traffic 217, average per session =
4.02,
Illinois represented 92.57% by NS9F, W9HLX, N9NK, NN9M, N9PLM AG9Y =
KB9YRW.

There are two hamfests coming up this month that you might want to =
attend.=20
One is the Sterling Rock Falls ARS hamfest on March 16 in Sterling.  =
Then on
March 23 the North Shore Radio Club Hamfest will be held at the Lake =
county
Fairgrounds.  I hope to see you there.
