I connected up echolink to the 147.06 repeater this morning to help with =
the
test that the National Weather Service Office in the Quad Cities was =
wanting
to conduct. It appears to be working well as I had a station in England
check into the repeater earlier.=20
I want to clarify with Tony and anyone else that this is only a test to =
show
that it is feasible. I do not want anyone to expect that this is a =
permanent
link through my station. I am 10 miles away from the repeater and I do =
not
want to leave my equipment running during a storm. I have already
experienced lightning last year and I don't want to go through that =
again!
However this does show it can be done. Anyone can do it. If you already =
own
a computer and have internet and a 2 meter radio, the only other piece =
of
equipment you would need is a rigblaster type interface box to hook your
computer soundcard to your radio. I would think someone in Macomb would =
be
better suited for this as then you can then use an indoor antenna to get =
to
the repeater and reduce the risk of being hit by lightning during a =
storm!=20
Anyway, I will leave Echolink up and running until around 11:00 this
morning. I will be shutting things off at that time as I plan to head to
town for some errands.=20
