...QUIET TODAY...BUT AN INCREASING THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS
TONIGHT AND THURSDAY...
A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THIS MORNING. THE FRONT MAY
TRIGGER AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM ALONG AND EAST OF THE
MISSISSIPPI RIVER. IF A THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPS...IT WILL STAY BELOW
SEVERE LEVELS.
THE COLD FRONT WILL STALL OVER NORTHERN MISSOURI THIS AFTERNOON...THEN
RETURN NORTH THROUGH MOST OF IOWA AND NORTHERN ILLINOIS TONIGHT. THERE
IS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING AHEAD OF THE FRONT. AREAS ALONG
AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 30 WILL HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF SEEING A
THUNDERSTORM THIS EVENING AND EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. A FEW OF THESE
STORMS COULD BE SEVERE. THE PRIMARY THREAT WILL BE LARGE HAIL.
THURSDAY...A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST
WILL DRAG A COLD FRONT THROUGH THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY. TEMPERATURES
WARMING INTO THE 80S AND INCREASING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WILL CREATE AN
UNSTABLE AIRMASS AHEAD OF THE FRONT BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON. AS THE
FRONT MOVES THROUGH EASTERN IOWA AND NORTHEAST MISSOURI A LINE OF
THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP. THE LINE OF STORMS WILL MOVE EAST
INTO NORTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS BY EARLY THURSDAY EVENING.
SOME OF THESE STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE...PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS AND
LARGE HAIL.
AFTER THE COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...MUCH COOLER AIR
WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION.
SPOTTER ACTIVATION MAY BE NECESSARY LATE THIS EVENING AND EARLY
THURSDAY MORNING ALONG AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 30. ACTIVATION MAY BE
NECESSARY AGAIN THURSDAY AFTERNOON OVER MUCH OF THE AREA.
