SIGNIFICANT WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE QUAD CITIES IA IL
455 PM CDT TUE APR 16 2002
...SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TONIGHT BUT SEVERE STORMS
NO LONGER EXPECTED...
A FAST MOVING UPPER AIR DISTURBANCE IN KANSAS WILL MOVE NORTHEAST AND
DRAG A WEAK COLD FRONT INTO EASTERN IOWA AFTER MIDNIGHT. DUE TO LOSS
OF HEATING OVERNIGHT AND A WEAK TRIGGER AS THE BOUNDARY MOVES INTO OUR
AREA...THE DEVELOPING LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN EASTERN NEBRASKA AT 430
PM SHOULD BEGIN TO WEAKEN BY THE TIME IT REACHES THE I-35 CORRIDOR IN
CENTRAL IOWA. THIS PRECIPITATION SHOULD MERGE WITH AN AREA OF SHOWERS
AND SOME EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTHEAST TONIGHT FROM WESTERN
MISSOURI PRODUCING SPOTTY LIGHT TO ISOLATED MODERATE RAINS. THUS...ANY
STORMS TONIGHT SHOULD REMAIN BELOW SEVERE LEVELS. THEIR IS A SMALL
POSSIBILITY THE SQUALL LINE IN NEBRASKA WILL MODIFY OUR ENVIRONMENT
ENOUGH THIS EVENING TO ALLOW STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS TO LAST AND MOVE IN
AREAS NEAR THE INTERSTATE 380 CORRIDOR TOWARD MIDNIGHT. IF THIS DOES
APPEAR POSSIBLE...WE WILL UPDATE THIS PRODUCT BY MID EVENING.
THE WEATHER WILL REMAIN ACTIVE THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK.
ANOTHER ROUND OF THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT...
MAINLY OVER EAST CENTRAL IOWA AND NORTHWEST ILLINOIS. THURSDAY
AFTERNOON...MORE THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION AHEAD OF
A STRONG COLD FRONT. THE COLD FRONT WILL ALSO BRING AN END TO THE
WARM WEATHER. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO RETURN TO NEAR NORMAL FOR
THE THE END OF THE WEEK...WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN STORE FOR
THE WEEKEND.
SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING.
HOWEVER...MONITOR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA OUTLET FOR ANY UPDATES TO SEVERE
WEATHER POTENTIAL THIS EVENING.
