A Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled for launch tonight (Saturday, July 26) from Vandenberg SFB, Calif. The vehicle is slated to lift off from south base at 8:55 p.m. PDT and carry several Starlink satellites into orbit. Eight minutes after launch, the first stage will attempt to land on a drone ship positioned down range.
Sky watchers may be treated to an interesting display as the vehicle's exhaust plume is suspended in the dusk sky while being illuminated at high altitude by the Sun. Weather permitting, the event could be visible to the unaided eye over a large part of the American southwest and northwest Mexico.
