[Launch Alert]

This evening's (May 8) launch of a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg SFB, Calif. appears to be on schedule. The vehicle is slated to lift off between 7:48 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. PDT.

For much of the West Coast, liftoff occurs around sunset. This will result in a bright sky background and a subdued display. Observers farther east may see a more impressive display as the rocket's sunlit exhaust plume is suspended in a twilight sky.
