An Alpha rocket is scheduled for launch from Vandenberg SFB, Calif. on Monday night (July 1). The vehicle is slated to leave the base during a 9:03 to 10:20 p.m. PDT launch window and carry NASA's ELaNA 43 (Educational Launch of Nanosatellites 43) mission into orbit. Following liftoff, the rocket will climb vertically and the turn towards the south-southwest. Unlike recent Vandenberg launches which roughly paralleled the coast, this launch will head away from the coast towards the open ocean.
If liftoff occurs early in the launch window, the southwestern U.S. and northwest Mexico may see an interesting display as the Falcon's exhaust plume is illuminated by the Sun at high altitude while suspended in a twilight or dark sky.
