An Alpha rocket appears* to be scheduled for launch this evening (July 2) from Vandenberg SFB, Calif. The vehicle is slated to lift off at 9:03 p.m. PDT, the start of a 30-minute launch window. After it leaves Vandenberg, the vehicle will probably fly towards the south-southwest as it carries NASA's ELaNA 43 mission into orbit.

If the launch occurs early in the window, the southwestern U.S. and northwest Mexico may see an interesting display as the Falcon's exhaust plume is illuminated by the Sun at high altitude while suspended in a twilight or dark sky.
