A Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled for launch late this evening (October 27) from Vandenberg SFB, Calif. The vehicle is probably slated to lift off from south base at approximately 11:47 p.m. PDT during a launch window that runs from approximately 11:47 p.m. to 3:43 a.m. PDT. The Falcon 9 will probably head south as it carries several second-generation Starlink satellites into orbit.

Weather permitting, the event could be visible to the unaided eye for hundreds of miles for several minutes. During the first few minutes of the launch, the Falcon will produce a bright orange flame. The flame will gradually dim and the vehicle's tenuous exhaust plume may appear. The plume could remain visible through the entire second stage burn. Launch viewing will be hampered by the nearly full Moon.
