A jumbo jet is scheduled to launch multiple satellites off the southern California coast tonight (Wednesday, June 29). Plans call for the Cosmic Girl aircraft to depart Mojave, Calif. and fly to a launch area over the ocean believed to be about 80 statute miles southwest of Santa Barbara. The aircraft is slated to release the LauncherOne rocket at 10:00 p.m. PDT (05:00 UTC), the start of an unspecified launch window. The rocket's first stage will then ignite and LauncherOne will head south-southeast and parallel the coast of southern California and Baja California as it climbs into orbit.
 
If the sky is clear, observers at dark sites near the coast from Avila Beach, Calif. to Ensenada, Mexico may be able to see the launch with the unaided eye.
