LAUNCH ON SCHEDULE
by Brian Webb
Tomorrow's planned launch of an Atlas V rocket carrying the LDCM
spacecraft from Vandenberg AFB appears to be on schedule. Plans call
for the Atlas to lift off from Space Launch Complex 3 (SLC-3) at south
Vandenberg at 10:02 PST, the start of a launch window that extends
until 10:50 PST.
Since the launch pad is located on south Vandenberg, the preferred
viewing location would be a public road or park roughly 5 miles west
of the south end of Lompoc. Regardless of where you go to view the
launch, do not trespass, obey all instructions from military and
public safety personnel, and be aware of your surroundings and of any
potential hazards.
The most recent launch weather forecast calls for a 100% probability
of weather conditions within acceptable limits.
The weather forecast for 10:00 PST tomorrow for the area 5 miles west-
southwest of Lompoc is as follows:
Cloud cover 13%
Temperature 50 deg. F
Wind from the northwest at 13
One possible launch viewing location is Providence Landing Park in
Lompoc (refer to the following news item).
