                  MINUTEMAN III TEST LAUNCH DELAYED

BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. - The launch of an unarmed operational
test Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile at Vandenberg
AFB, Calif., has been postponed.

The test launch is delayed in order to replace a test-unique tracking
component used only on test missiles. The test-unique tracking
component monitors missile location within geographic boundaries of
the test range.

This tracking system is used solely in test launches of Minuteman III
missiles and does not affect the operational reliability, accuracy or
performance of the system.

The launch has not yet been rescheduled.
