                      MINUTEMAN LAUNCH SCRUBBED

The Minuteman III launch scheduled for next week from Vandenberg AFB
has been scrubbed. The next Vandenberg AFB missile launch is a
Minuteman III test on May 16. The Defense Department may release some
details about the launch a few days in advance.

It is not known if the April and May Minuteman launches are in fact
the same mission.

                    LAUNCH ALERT SERVER PROBLEMS

We have had a major problem with the Launch Alert server. You may
have been getting duplicate messages, test messages, bounce notices,
and so on.

If you receive a bounce notification, it means that at some point in
the past (possibly the distant past), there was some sort of a problem
(minor or major) delivering Launch Alert to your e-mail address.
Receiving a bounce notice should not be cause for alarm.

If the server software notifies you that your subscription has been
disabled, try resubscribing using the following steps:

1. Go to http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/launch-alert.

2. Go to Subscribing to Launch-Alert.

3. Enter your e-mail address.

4. Create a password that is secure, but one that you will be able to
    easily remember.

5. Enter your password.

6. Reenter the password to confirm it.

IMPORTANT: Write down your password! You will need it in the
future to change e-mail addresses or to unsubscribe.

7. Click the Subscribe button.

8. Store your password in a safe place.

9. You should receive a confirmation e-mail from
    launch-alert-request.

10. Open the e-mail and click on the link.

11. Click on the Subscribe to list Launch-Alert button.

12. You should receive an e-mail welcoming you to Launch Alert.

The Launch Alert server system administrator and I are working to
resolve the problems with the server and distribution list.
