THURSDAY VANDENBERG LAUNCH
A Delta II booster carrying the Aquarius/SAC-D environmental
satellite is scheduled for launch from Vandenberg AFB Thursday
morning, June 9th. The Delta is set to lift-off from Vandenberg at
7:20:13 PDT, the start of a five-minute launch window.
Following lift-off, the Delta II will climb vertically and then begin
a slow turn toward the south-southwest as it heads away from the
West Coast and carries Aquarius/SAC-D into a near-polar orbit.
Weather permitting, Thursday morning's launch could be visible up to
150 miles from the launch pad and up to 150 miles either side of the
Delta's flight path during the first few minutes of flight. In other
words, the launch could be visible as far north as Cambria, as far
south as Newport Beach, and as far inland as Mount Wilson.
