Last night I was able to get a good time exposure of the Vandenberg AFB
Atlas V launch.

I took the photo from a hill in Ventura County about 100 miles
east-southeast of the launch pad. The equipment was a Nikon D70 digital
camera set to ISO 200 and a 50mm lens set to f/9.

A challenge I had to deal with was the semi-bright sky due to city lights
and the nearly full Moon. Luckily, my exposure was on the money.

The U.S. Air Force posted video of the launch on the Web. Go to:

I believe the video is listed under "related links".

Finally, be advised that the next Vandenberg AFB rocket launch is this
Saturday night, September 25 during a 21:41-21:55 PDT launch window. Liftoff
is slated to occur about three hours after sunset. That is too long after
sundown for the rocket to climb into sunlight and have its exhaust plume
illuminated by the Sun.
